The Wonderful World of Play Therapy Webinar

Join us for a fun hour of talking through all things play therapy! If you have ever wondered what is play therapy, how does it work in a school setting, and how you can develop a career that is both meaningful and fun, this is the learning session for you. Led by two New England play therapists, Dr. Mary Harris and Ms. Ivette Matos, we will be covering some of the most frequently asked questions surrounding play therapy, including:

  • How does someone become a registered play therapist?
  • What does play therapy look like in the school setting, and across a child's lifespan?
  • How can the New England Association for Play Therapy Board (and other local play therapy boards around the country) assist me in this process
  • What types of trainings are out there so I can start?

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own questions and can expect to hear directly from the presenters about how play therapy has improved their work with children both in mental health clinics as well as in the unique setting of schools.

About the Presenters

Mary Harris, DSW, LICSW, RPT-S

Dr. Mary Harris is a clinical social worker and play therapist, the director of a local mental health clinic in Worcester, Massachusetts, and sits as the president of the New England Association for Play Therapy board. Her background is in the field of Child Welfare and community mental health, where she has spent the last 13+ years supporting children, families, and adults impacted by trauma and attachment disruptions. Dr. Harris is particularly passionate about advancing the field of children's mental health and believes that one of the greatest ways this is done is by training and supporting the clinicians that work with them. Dr. Harris loves to bring in creativity and play to any learning opportunity and firmly believes that doing such things helps make scary topics like trauma and abuse, more approachable and manageable.

Ivette Matos, LMSW, SB-RPT

Ivette has over 25 years' experience working in the mental health field. She worked at The Institute of Living’s Psychiatric Hospital's Grace Webb School in Hartford, currently works as a School Social Worker at a Reggio Emilia Inspired Elementary Magnet School in East Hartford and at a private practice office. She Is a Licensed Master Social Worker, School Based Register Play Therapist and the School Based Liaison for New England Play Therapy.
