SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

VTSCA supports our school counseling mission and strengthens our statewide network in several ways, including supporting Special Interest Groups (SIG). SIGs are designed to provide forums to gather to share ideas, discuss contemporary issues, and identify strategies for collaboration to support one another and move the field forward. SIGs:

  • Connect counselors. A SIG is not meant to create a "chapter" that competes with VTSCA. Instead, functions as a working group focused on needs, such as local ones.
  • Build engagement. A SIG invites more active participation at the local and state level.
  • Enhance professional development. As an example, a county SIG collaboration can pilot ideas, share care studies, and develop resources that benefit school counselors statewide.
  • Support equity. Other regions may develop SIGs in the future. Including existing groups sets the precedent for localized professional learning communities.
  • Strengthen equity. A coordinated statewide voice is more powerful. Local discussions often surface challenges (such as ratios, student needs, or district policies) that, when shared with VTSCA, informs our advocacy and testimony at the state level.

If you have an idea for a special interest group, complete this form. Active VTSCA SIGs are listed below.

ACTIVE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELOR SIG

This group offers a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals who are dedicated to creating a positive, nurturing environment for children. Together, we will share resources, ideas, and strategies to enhance our counseling practices and make a lasting impact on the well-being of every student.

This SIG is a space for us to explore current issues in Vermont schools and brainstorm ways to address these concerns. Participation in this SIG is open to school counselors working with elementary school students across Vermont.

If you are interested in participating, please complete the form linked below.

DIRECTORS OF COUNSELING

The Directors of School Counseling SIG is a supportive community for those leading school counseling programs across districts and schools. Together, we share ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and learn from one another’s experiences. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your program, support your team, or stay connected with colleagues who “get” the unique role of a counseling director, this group offers a welcoming space to collaborate, problem-solve, and grow together. The group meets monthly.
